One of the most comforting Christian phrases is nowhere in the Bible.
Worse: it may be teaching you to carry what Jesus came to carry.
"God won't give you more than you can handle."
It sounds encouraging. But buried inside it is a quiet accusation: if you're falling apart, you must not be strong enough.
That is not the gospel.
Paul said he was burdened far beyond his ability to endure. Crushed. Cornered. His words: "pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life" (2 Corinthians 1:8).
He didn't say, "God gave me a manageable challenge." He said the pressure became so severe that he stopped trusting himself to survive it.
And that was the point.
God will sometimes lead you past the edge of your own strength. Not to destroy you, but to expose the lie that you were ever meant to live by it.
Your breaking point is not always a punishment. Sometimes it is an altar.
The place where self-reliance finally runs out of oxygen. The place where your strength ends and His begins.
You are not failing because you cannot carry what was never yours to carry. You are not faithless because you are overwhelmed. You are human.
And the gospel is not, "Try harder. Be stronger. You can handle this."
The gospel is: "You can't. But Christ can."
So if you feel like you can't handle it today... good.
Stop pretending you can. Stop dragging the weight behind you like it proves your faith.
Surrender it. Give it to Him. Let God be strong where you are weak.
Because your weakness is not the end of the story. It is the stage where His power becomes impossible to mistake.
The world says, "You can do it." The gospel says, "He already did."
What are you still trying to carry that Jesus is asking you to surrender?
