Help me put Scripture before the scroll

My wife has to stop what she’s doing to enter a code on our daughter’s phone. We wanted parental controls. We got another thing she has to manage.

Christie and I bought apps because we wanted help with our kids’ phones. We struggled to make sense of them. That’s one reason we started building FaithWall.

FaithWall still requires Apple’s own approvals. What we’re building is a daily reading routine a parent can understand and a child can follow. Read the Bible before opening the apps you’ve agreed can wait.

I want a mother or father to be able to set that routine without learning a new vocabulary. The child should know what to do next. And an adult ought to be able to choose the same reading-first habit for their own phone.

Nearly six months ago, we tested FaithWall with friends and got excited about it. Then we hit the Apple App Store problems. I spent my own money. I tried to get help. There have been delays, and I’ve been frustrated with how long this has taken.

The new iPhone beta is now with our testers. We’ve tested selecting an app, blocking that app, and restoring access on my phone. Parents can now begin setting up their own phone and a child’s phone in the family beta. The full family routine still needs hands-on testing.

There is also an installation tutorial that explains TestFlight, Apple’s app for trying early versions, and takes people through the steps. It has separate instructions for your own phone, a second parent, and a child’s phone. Someone who has never tested an app should be able to understand how to start.

We have finally come a long way with it. There is something here now that people can install and try. The next work is getting those families through setup, testing the routine on their phones, and fixing what gets in their way.
