It’s wedding week at our house! Here’s another post from the archives!
In today’s world, women are constantly told that their greatest strength lies in standing alone.
But Scripture tells a different story.
A better one.
The life of Priscilla is not the story of a woman chasing her own spotlight—it’s the story of a woman who stood shoulder to shoulder best friends with her husband, and in doing so, helped build the New Testament church.
You’ll never find Priscilla mentioned apart from her husband, Aquila.
Wherever he is, she’s there too.
That alone says something.
Not about dependency, but about unity.
Scripture never makes her a footnote to her husband’s faith—it shows her as his faithful companion in obedience and service.
“And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla… and because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.” (Acts 18:2–3, KJV)
They fled Rome together.
They worked together.
They opened their home together.
They walked in obedience together.
There’s no record of Priscilla trailing behind Aquila in some kind of forced submission.
No, she is beside him—building tents, learning the Word, showing hospitality, even assisting in discipling Apollos.
Acts 18:26 tells us “they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”
We also never see mention of children.
That’s not an oversight.
It’s a reminder: womanhood is not limited to motherhood.
God used a childless woman to aid in the shaping of doctrine in the early church, and to help her husband disciple one of its great preachers.
If you’re walking through a season of childlessness—whether temporary or permanent—don’t believe the lie that you are sidelined.
Priscilla wasn’t.
And you’re not either.
Ladies, we need to stop thinking that support work is lesser work.
Priscilla didn’t need her own mission field to matter.
Her field was the same one Aquila plowed, and she stood beside him as they worked it together.
Faithful.
Steady.
Fruitful.
And that is the kind of woman the church still needs today—
Not one who’s competing with her husband, but one who’s contending beside him.
Not one who needs her own spotlight, but one who’s focused on the work.
Not one who complains that she isn’t seen, but one who knows that God sees her labor—even if no one else does.
“Salute Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid down their own necks…” (Romans 16:3–4, KJV)
They weren’t looking for a stage.
They were laying down their lives.
And Paul noticed.
So here’s the challenge:
Are you willing to be a Priscilla?
Not flashy.
Not front and center.
But faithful.
In step with your husband.
Grounded in the Word.
Useful to God.
That kind of woman may not trend in today’s world—but she is deeply honored in heaven.
Be a woman who shows up.
Who serves with joy.
Who stands firm in truth.
Who walks in step with the man God gave you.
This is biblical womanhood—not loud, not soft, but strong and steady.
And let the legacy of your life be one of obedience, honor, and eternal fruit.
Heirs together,
Biblical Womanhood
