It’s wedding week at our house! So, this week will be reader favorite posts pulled from the archives!
Yield: A home where love can grow steady
Prep time: Daily
Cook time: A lifetime
Skill level: Humility required
Warning: Not a trick to “keep a man.” This is a way to honor God and love your husband well.
“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Mark 10:9)
Ingredients:
• 1 settled heart committed to doing him good
“She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.” (Proverbs 31:12)
• 2 heaping cups of diligent work at home
“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.” (Proverbs 31:27)
• A steady pinch of wisdom with money
“There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise.” (Proverbs 21:20)
• A full measure of truth and wisdom
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.” (James 1:5)
• Kind words, sifted fine
“She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.” (Proverbs 31:26)
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth.” (Ephesians 4:29)
• Joy, not dependent on circumstances
“Rejoice in the Lord alway.” (Philippians 4:4)
• Thankfulness, stirred in often
“In every thing give thanks.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
• Contentment, learned slowly
“I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)
• A meek and quiet spirit, the kind God calls precious
“Even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” (1 Peter 3:4)
• Submission, not as slavery but as obedience to God’s order
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22)
“Let the wife see that she reverence her husband.” (Ephesians 5:33)
• Faithfulness, baked in for life
“Yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.” (Malachi 2:14)
Instructions
1. Start your morning by setting the heat low.
Begin with prayer before the day boils over. A woman who tries to cook love with a frantic spirit will scorch everything she touches. Ask the Lord for grace before you ask your husband for anything.
2. Add commitment first, not feelings.
Feelings rise and fall. Covenant stays. Decide again today that you will do him good, not evil, not with your hands only but with your tone, your facial expressions, and your private thoughts. (Proverbs 31:12)
3. Work your home like it matters, because it does.
Not for applause, not for Instagram, but because your household is a ministry. The Scripture doesn’t praise a woman for being loud online, but for looking well to the ways of her household. (Proverbs 31:27)
4. Season your speech.
Before you answer, taste your words. Are they kind? Are they necessary? Are they clean? If not, throw them out. A home cannot be nourished on sharp talk. (Proverbs 31:26; Ephesians 4:29)
5. Fold contentment into the dough.
Contentment is not pretending everything is fine. It is refusing to live like God has shorted you. It is learning to trust His providence and still be grateful. (Philippians 4:11)
6. Stir in gratitude until it changes the texture of the whole day.
Thankfulness shifts a home. Ungratefulness poisons one. Thanksgiving is not a holiday, it is a habit. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
7. Let joy rise from the right place.
Joy built on circumstances collapses. Joy in the Lord endures. Let your children and your husband feel that your spirit is anchored somewhere stronger than the day’s troubles. (Philippians 4:4)
8. Add meekness last, and do not confuse it with weakness.
Meekness is strength under control. It is the ability to be right without being ruthless. It is the ability to be heard without being harsh. God calls it “of great price.” (1 Peter 3:4)
9. Serve warm, not cold.
Love is not only a vow you made once. It is the posture you choose daily. Reverence your husband. Respect him in front of others. Speak of him with honor. (Ephesians 5:33)
Chef’s Notes
• This recipe is not for “winning” arguments. It’s for building a home.
• Your husband will not be perfect. Neither will you. That’s why you need Scripture and grace in the kitchen every day.
• The goal is not performance. The goal is faithfulness.
Final Plating
If you want the kind of marriage that lasts, you don’t need a trendy technique. You need old paths, daily obedience, and a heart that fears the Lord.
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)

“BASKING IN HIS PROMISES”
A Summertime Devotional
One day at a time.
One promise at a time.
One quiet place to set your heart back beneath the Word of God.
It is for the woman who wants to slow down without becoming lazy.
For the mother who feels poured out.
For the wife who wants a softer heart.
For the grandmother who has seen enough seasons to know that God has never failed her.
For the single woman, the waiting woman, the grieving woman, the woman who is quietly trying to remain faithful in the place God has given her.
