After a recent note I shared, I received a bit of backlash.
The note was simple.
The words were sharp.
But the heart behind it was grounded in a truth I’ll stand by.
Here’s what I wrote:
The devil LOVES a lazy Christian woman.
He loves when you’re scrolling on your phone instead of tackling the piled-up laundry.
He loves when you sit binge-watching Netflix series instead of decluttering your messy bathroom cabinet.
God calls for us to work hard and be diligent.
The devil sees a lazy Christian as an easy target because she’s already self-sabotaging her own effectiveness.
Are you making the devil’s job easier, ma’am?
Some responded with agreement and conviction.
Others took offense.
Some said things like:
“Yeah, well, even the Father rests… sooo?”
or
“Our battles are far beyond laundry and medicine cabinets.”
And to that I say—yes, our battles are spiritual.
But don’t you dare forget that Scripture ties spiritual faithfulness to physical diligence.
Yes, the Father rested.
But He rested after six days of perfect, sinless, fruitful labor.
He didn’t rest because He was weary from scrolling His feed.
He rested because the work was finished.
Scripture makes that plain.
“The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.”
(Proverbs 13:4, KJV)
“Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.”
(Proverbs 19:15, KJV)
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might…”
(Ecclesiastes 9:10, KJV)
The lazy woman isn’t failing because she lacks vision.
She’s failing because she refuses to move.
She desires.
She dreams.
But she won’t do.
And the devil loves that.
He doesn’t always need to tempt you with scandal.
He just needs you distracted.
Idle.
Bored.
Weakened by your own passivity.
This is not about legalism.
This is about calling laziness what it is—sin.
A sin so real that Scripture repeatedly warns against it.
“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”
(Proverbs 31:27, KJV)
That’s the standard. Not perfection. Not burnout.
But diligence.
Faithfulness in the ordinary.
Yes, there are days when the mess wins. (I’ve been there, too.)
Yes, there are seasons of grief, sickness, fatigue, and deep weariness when the Lord meets us in the undone tasks and carries us gently.
But those are the exceptions.
They prove the rule.
And if your exception has become your norm, it’s time to step back and ask—am I stewarding what I’ve been given?
Christian woman, you have been called to be a keeper at home.
Not in name only.
Not in occasional bursts of inspiration.
But daily.
“That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home…”
(Titus 2:4–5, KJV)
This matters.
Not because folded laundry earns your righteousness, but because the state of your home reflects the posture of your heart.
Are you ruling your home or are you neglecting it?
Are you training your children or letting them train themselves?
Are you setting a table, tending your garden, stewarding the details?
Or are you making excuses for laziness and calling it grace?
The devil loves a lazy Christian woman because she is ineffective.
She is easily discouraged.
She is full of desires but empty of fruit.
She gets offended when corrected and defensive when convicted.
She scrolls. She sighs. She snaps.
She claims to be overwhelmed but spends her hours doing nothing of value.
This is a rebuke. But it is also a lifeline.
If you’ve read this and felt the sting of truth—don’t harden your heart.
Don’t justify it. Don’t deflect. Confess it.
There is hope for the woman who can admit, “I’ve been lazy.”
There is mercy for the woman who says, “I’ve let things go too long.”
There is strength waiting for the one who will get up, one decision at a time, and choose diligence over distraction.
Start with your Bible.
Start with the dishes.
Start with speaking kindly.
Start by turning off your phone.
Start by saying, “I will do what I can today, and I will do it well.”
God is not honored by half-hearted service.
He is worthy of our full devotion.
And that includes our laundry.
Our cabinets.
Our morning routines.
Our tone of voice.
Our kitchens.
Our closets.
Our thought life.
Our calendars.
But the Lord delights in the one who repents and returns to the work.
Let today be the day you shake off the dust, get your house in order, and stop making excuses for what God has already called you to do.
Because the battlefield may be spiritual—but the war is often won in the little things.
And it’s time we start winning again.
